Unexpected Find For Second-hand Dealer In Melton South

It was like a scene out of the TV show Storage Wars in Melton South on Saturday afternoon.

An intrepid second-hand dealer has come across many odd items over the years however this was perhaps the most brow-raising that required the assistance of law enforcement about 1pm.

The man purchased five shipping containers sight unseen to see what abandoned gems he might locate inside and sell.

Suspected as belonging to a deceased estate, the man soon located several boxes containing military-related items and clothing.

However, it was when he spotted a rocket launcher he decided he needed some assistance.

Police units liaised with specialist police from the Bomb Response Unit and, after seeking advice from the Australian Defence Force (ADF), the weapon was soon declared in working order.

Given its unloaded state, it was deemed safe to handle and its new owner was happy to have police take the rocket launcher off his hands until it can be collected by the ADF.

It's believed the rocket launcher was from the time of the Vietnam War and not suspected of being used in any criminal offending.
