Unit fire at Coolangatta

Police are investigating a fire that caused substantial damage to two residential unit complexes at Coolangatta in the early hours of this morning.

Around 2.10am emergency services were called to the Coyne Street building where there was a large fire at the rear of the premises.

The unit complex and a neighbouring unit complex in Haig Street were evacuated and seven people were treated for smoke inhalation.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the fire.
