UNITAR

14 July 2025, Geneva, Switzerland - The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and HP Inc. (HP) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly implement an initiative focused on digital inclusion, youth employability, and women's empowerment through technology and innovation.

The collaboration was formalised during a signing ceremony at UNITAR Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, with the Director of the Division for Prosperity, Ms. Mihoko Kumamoto and HP's Global Education team. The strategic relationship signals a shared commitment to building inclusive, future-oriented learning ecosystems that prepare underserved communities for the digital economy.

The collaboration will centre on leveraging HP's award-winning Gaming Garage, recognised as Best CSR Programme at GESS Dubai 2024, and UNITAR's learning and capacity-building expertise to co-develop cutting-edge digital education programmes. These initiatives aim to empower youth and women with high-impact training in game development, entrepreneurship, and emerging technologies such as generative AI.

Empowering Innovation Through Gamified Learning

UNITAR

At the core of the initiative is a focus on gamified, experiential learning, combining the creative potential of the gaming industry with job-ready digital skills. The effort will introduce new training content, such as the course "Generative AI Mastery: Revolutionising Game Development", offering learners the opportunity to explore AI-powered storytelling, design, and innovation.

The programme will also support the creation of digital hubs and innovation labs in underserved regions, in partnership with local stakeholders including governments, the private sector, and civil society. These spaces will serve as centres of learning, creativity, and livelihood development, particularly in Africa and other emerging regions.

Strategic Alignment with Global Goals

The partnership aligns with UNITAR's mission to leave no one behind in the digital transformation and HP's commitment to accelerating digital equity for 150 million people by 2030. It also contributes directly to the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in the areas of quality education, gender equality, decent work, and innovation.

This collaboration reflects UNITAR's commitment to ensuring no one is left behind in the digital transformation. By combining HP's innovation with our inclusive learning expertise, we are creating real pathways for youth and women to participate in the global digital economy." - Mihoko Kumamoto, Director, Division for Prosperity, UNITAR.

HP is committed to leveraging technology to ignite positive change and empower future generations. Together with UNITAR, we are providing young people across various regions with invaluable skills in design, programming, AI, and blockchain to equip them for success in the dynamic fields of technology and game development and inspire them to become the innovators and leaders of tomorrow. The initiative underscores the transformative role of skills in the modern economy and our commitment to fostering a brighter future." - Mayank Dhingra, Global Director, Education Strategy, HP Inc.

Looking Ahead

Pilot projects under the partnership are expected to launch in late 2025, beginning in select countries with plans for regional and global scale-up. UNITAR and HP will jointly monitor impact, document lessons learned and explore opportunities for expansion in line with evolving industry demands and community needs.

This partnership also supports the objectives of the UN AI for Good Global Summit, where UNITAR and HP are contributing to the global dialogue on AI, education, and inclusive digital transformation.
