Spirits are high at the University of Adelaide, with the Waite campus' very own gin receiving a gold medal in its first ever competition.
The Waite Gin was one of only three gins in its class to receive a gold gong on its debut at the 2025 Tasting Australia Spirit Awards. It was also the first competition for Waite Brandy. It too impressed judges, receiving a silver medal in its category.
"This is an excellent outcome for the production team at the Hickinbotham Roseworthy Wine Science Laboratory, which has spent the past five years developing new products including our medal winning gin and brandy," said Associate Professor Paul Grbin, the University of Adelaide's Head Winemaker.
"Our products are truly unique and have a distinct University of Adelaide flavour. Our gin showcases the sensory impact of key botanicals, some of which are sourced from the Waite campus.
"Our brandy project - which is a collaboration between staff and students - also uses homegrown ingredients and is based around grapes produced right here on campus."
The Waite Gin and Waite Brandy were among 175 entries in the Tasting Australia Spirit Awards.
