Unlicensed drug-driver charged after pursuit through rural properties at Temora

A man will face court today charged after an alleged police pursuit in a stolen vehicle in the state's Riverina region.

About 11am yesterday (Monday 8 June 2020), a Toyota Hilux utility was reported stolen from a home in Temora.

A short time later, police were notified after the Hilux was seen driving erratically through the town, before it crashed through a fence onto Burley Griffin Way.

Officers from Riverina Police District witnessed the vehicle ram through a fence and onto Burley Griffin Way.

A pursuit was initiated by officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command before being terminated a short time later for safety reasons.

The utility continued to travel through Barmedman and through several rural fences and properties along Nobbys Road and Goldfields Way, before becoming entangled in fencing at a farm in Yiddah about 1pm.

The driver, a 35-year-old man, was arrested and taken to Temora Hospital for mandatory testing.

He was charged with take and drive conveyance, unlicensed driver, police pursuit (x3) and drive under influence of drug.

The man, who has never held a driver's licence, was refused bail to appear at Wagga Wagga Local Court today (Tuesday 9 June 2020).
