Unplanned Water Outage - Alstonville CBD and surrounds

Unplanned Water Outage - Alstonville CBD and surrounds

Update 2.30pm Monday 7 February 2022

Council's crews are working as quickly as possible to repair the water main break impacting Alstonville.

In order to carry out the repairs it will be necessary to temporarily shut down water supply to the Alstonville CBD and surrounding areas.

This temporary outage is expected to impact properties from Kays Lane/Lismore Road, the CBD, through to Teven Road. Water supply will be temporarily unavailable until approximately 5pm today.

Motorists are urged to avoid the Alstonville town centre and use alternative routes where possible as the water main break is impacting traffic.

Ballina Street heading eastbound is currently closed due to the main break. Ballina Street heading westbound to Wollongbar is open but motorists are urged to please avoid the area where possible.

Ballina Shire Council asks that residents please refrain from using water at this time. Council's Water and Wastewater team will make every effort to resolve this matter as quickly as possible.

Council apologises for the inconvenience and will continue to provide updates via local media and Council's website once more information is available.

Here's some things to remember that will assist you during this outage:

  • During any water disruption it's important to leave your taps off as the water may return at any time.
  • When water returns it may be discoloured. This is due to sediment. Please run the tap until your water runs clear.
  • Your water may appear milky. This is caused by small air bubbles. Don't be alarmed it is not harmful, and will settle in a short period.

If you have any enquiries in regard to this matter please contact council's Water and Wastewater Section on 1300 864 444.
