University places third in Australia for teaching, backed strong results in equity, research and career impact measures
The University of Wollongong (UOW) has been named as one of the country's top 10 universities in the 2025 Australian Financial Review Best Universities Ranking, securing 8th place nationally.
UOW's strongest performance was in teaching, where it ranked third, confirming the University's position as a national leader in high-quality, student-centered education. UOW also recorded strong results in the other categories evaluated by the Australian Financial Review, ranking 12th for equity, 16th for research and 20th for career impact.
The Australian Financial Review rankings follow UOW's recent success in the Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching (QILT) Student Experience Survey, where it was ranked Australia's top public university for undergraduate student experience. That result was based on consistently strong feedback from students across teaching quality and engagement, skills development, learning resources, student support and services, and peer engagement.
Acting Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Mark Hoffman said the Australian Financial Review results underscored UOW's longstanding commitment to teaching excellence and student success.
"Being ranked eighth overall and third for teaching nationally is an outstanding achievement, and reflects UOW's strength as a great comprehensive university, delivering impactful teaching and research for the benefit of our communities," Professor Hoffman said.
"This result complements our result in the QILT Student Experience Survey and shows that students value the quality of the education and support they receive here. The strong satisfaction rating and our performance across all categories demonstrate that UOW provides a high-quality, supportive and engaging environment for learners and researchers.
"Together these results show that UOW offers an environment where students from all backgrounds can thrive and graduate with the skills and confidence to build successful futures."
