Strong gains across research, sustainability and internationalisation places UOW among world's leading universities in QS World University Rankings
The University of Wollongong (UOW) has ranked equal 184th in the 2026 QS World University Rankings, placing it among the world's top 200 universities for another consecutive year. UOW ranked 13th among Australian institutions.
UOW's position in the top 200 globally comes despite an increasingly competitive global higher education landscape, with more universities entering the rankings and raising the bar across all indicators. More than 8,400 institutions were evaluated for the 2026 QS World University Rankings
Among the standout results, UOW ranked 66th globally (and 4th in Australia) for Citations per Faculty, highlighting the global impact of its research. The University also maintained a top 100 spot for Sustainability, placing equal 98th (13th in Australia).
UOW was also ranked in the global top 200 for two key international indicators: International Faculty and International Research Network.
UOW Vice-Chancellor and President Professor G.Q. Max Lu said, "Seven of our nine scores have improved, including notable progress in academic and employer reputation — a reflection of the commitment of our staff and the quality of our graduates in the workforce.
"These results reinforce UOW's standing as a globally connected institution, with strong research performance and a diverse international connections and collaborations, as we continue to deliver meaningful impact through research, education and engagement."
Scores also improved in indicators such as International Students, Employment Outcomes, and Faculty Student Ratio.
The QS World University Rankings are among the most widely referenced university rankings in the world, assessing institutions across research, teaching, employability, sustainability and internationalisation.
