Climate-proof your garden

This relaxed and fun workshop run by sustainability expert Ella from Chooktopia will cover:

  • How to design your garden to be resilient to heatwaves, fire, flood, drought, torrential rain and other climate impacts
  • How to manage a productive garden that also provides habitat for animals through microclimates
  • How to soften the urban heat island effect
  • Learn about closed loop gardening! Increase nutrients and carbon in your soil and make your garden become part of the climate solution.

Talking with young people about climate change FREE ONLINE EVENT

This workshop is perfect for teachers, parents and carers. Join psychologist and Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Queensland, Dr Susie Burke, for this free online workshop that will help you explain climate change for children:

  • Work through how you respond to the current reality of climate change and the threat of worse impacts to come
  • Learn strategies for coping with the 'uncomfortable truths' of climate change
  • Gather ideas about how to support young people to cope with it
  • Learn about the skills and capacities our children will need for engaging in efforts to restore a safe climate and for adapting to the inevitable changes ahead.

Keeping backyard chooks

Chooks not only make great pets, they are also great composters and give us delicious eggs as a reward!

Come along to this fun workshop by Chooktopia and learn how to create a healthy, happy chooktopia of your own. The workshop will cover health, nutrition, housing, protection from predators and pests, as well as the sustainability and circular economy benefits of keeping these delightful animals.

The session will also cover local law considerations and guidelines to help you plan out a productive chook yard.
