Update drug operation closure at Townsville

Detectives from the Major and Organised Crime Squad Northern executed a search warrant upon a residence in Townsville today that resulted in the location of $398,300 cash hidden in a roof cavity.

The warrant was executed following the closure of a significant drug operation across Townsville, Operation Romeo Telos.

A total of 128 grams of cannabis and a drug utensil were also located during the course of the search.

A 38-year-old male is expected to be charged with a number of drug related offences relating to this seizure.

Detectives have also issued an NTA for possession of this cash as suspected drug proceeds to a 52-year-old alleged principal drug trafficker targeted in this operation.

The 52-year-old was released on Magistrates Court bail after this operation was closed in late September 2019.

The operation involved officers from several commands, coordinated by Major and Organised Crime Squad – Northern.

Police have charged 18 people for 101 offences, including nine people for drug trafficking.

The operation has also resulted in the seizure of $1,339,860 cash and over $5 million worth of drugs at street level.
