UPDATE: Maeroa Incident

As stated by Waikato Duty Inspector Karl Thornton:

A scene examination continues on Churchill Avenue in Maeroa, Hamilton, following a serious incident last night.

Police responded to the incident just before 9pm, where three people had reportedly been assaulted and had serious injuries consistent with being stabbed.

A 23-year-old man was taken into custody and is due to appear in Hamilton District Court tomorrow [17 August] facing assault charges. Police are not seeking anyone else in relation to the incident.

One victim remains in hospital in critical condition, while two other victims suffered non-life threatening but serious injuries, and a fourth victim had minor injuries.

This was a large-scale incident with the scene encompassing several properties and the road, and the public can expect an increased Police presence over the coming days.

Police would like to speak with anyone who witnessed the incident or who captured video footage, including CCTV, of the events that unfolded last night.
