Update on royalties transfer to RevenueWA

WA Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety

The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS) has been working closely with RevenueWA (Department of Finance) to transfer the department's mining and petroleum royalty administration and collection functions to RevenueWA.

The transfer will integrate the existing knowledge and expertise of DMIRS' royalty administration and collection functions with RevenueWA's information technology systems, knowledge, and information sharing networks. The move aligns with other Australian jurisdictions that have transferred royalty administration functions to revenue offices.

Legislative amendments and system changes are required before the transfer is finalised. There will be no change to current royalty lodgement and payment arrangements until this is complete, which is anticipated to occur mid-2024.

Stakeholders will be informed in advance of changes as a result of the formal transition, however, royalty payers can continue to expect the same professional service and expertise in the future.
