New online hub helping women succeed in business
It will now be easier for women in NSW to start, run and grow their own businesses, thanks to the State Government's new one-stop shop Women in Business Hub going live today.
Treasurer Matt Kean said the online Hub was a recommendation of the Government's Women's Economic Opportunities Review to improve women's financial security through increased workplace participation.
Insurance Council welcomes Disaster Ready Fund
The Insurance Council of Australia (ICA) welcomes the Federal Government's Disaster Ready Fund Bill 2022 introduced to Parliament today.
The $200 million a year Disaster Ready Fund initiative is in line with the Insurance Council's report, Building a More Resilient Australia, which earlier this year called for a range of measures to better protect households and communities from the impacts of extreme weather and put downward pressure on premiums.

Disaster Ready Fund to deliver long-term resilience
The Albanese Government has today begun the job of delivering on its promise to create a new Disaster Ready Fund, to help communities prepare for natural disasters.
The Bill, introduced to Parliament today, will transform the former Government's failed Emergency Response Fund into a dedicated ongoing source of funding for natural disaster resilience and risk reduction initiatives.
The fund will provide up to $200 million per year to invest in mitigation projects like flood levees, cyclone shelters, fire breaks and evacuation centres around Australia.

Queensland must get its fair share of disaster funding
RACQ has called for Queensland to 'receive its fair share' of the Disaster Ready Fund introduced by the Federal Government in Parliament today.
RACQ CEO David Carter said the Club welcomed the Federal Government's commitment to increase its disaster mitigation funding to $200 million a year.
New research shows every Australian pays for extreme weather
New research released today shows that extreme weather events over the past 12 months cost every Australian household an average of $1,532.
Commissioned from leading think tank the McKell Institute by the Insurance Council of Australia (ICA), The Cost of Extreme Weather also shows that over the last 10 years the average annual household cost of extreme weather has been $888, but that this figure is expected to jump to more than $2,500 a year by 2050.
