Upgrades for Pittsworth parks

Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) is in the process of completing park improvements at Bridgeman Oval and Rotaract Park as part of Council's 2020-21 capital works program and is committed to the ongoing development of Pittsworth District Recreation Parks.

As part of the works at Bridgeman Oval, TRC Environment and Community Committee portfolio lead Tim McMahon said Council replaced the existing toilet with an upgraded amenity building that has two cubicles and is compliant for People with Disabilities.

"In addition to this, the existing aged storage shed has been upgraded and incorporated as storage bays within the upgraded amenity building, as well as the installation of a new drinking fountain and connection paths.

"Throughout the process we've made sure that Pittsworth community groups that use the storage shed have been part of ongoing consultation throughout the design and the subsequent delivery phases of the project."

Park improvement works to Bridgman Oval have included:

  • improved park access / entries from Briggs Street and Whittle Street
  • a walking track / path around the oval perimeter to allow learn-to-ride and bike activity and incorporates feature seating
  • installation of an Avenue of Honour, which honours sporting and community persons with commemorative stones
  • a main access in to the internal park area with the focal point of the revitalised 1988 Bicentennial tree planting garden and commemorative stones
  • improvements and enhanced safety to off-street car parking area featuring a new school or club children drop off / bus parking space and improved shade with canopy tree plantings.

As well as the works at Bridgman Oval, Council is in the final stages of park improvements to Rotaract Park. This includes:

  • completion of the main path access circuit
  • reconfiguration of the park site planning and furniture to allow increase of multiple group use and social distancing.

"These works are being completed in line with Council's Master Plan for the Pittsworth District Recreation Park, which was adopted in 2017," Cr McMahon said.

"Practical completion of the $220,000 Toilet Amenity Building upgrade works to Bridgman Oval Toilet and $210,000 Park Improvement works to Bridgman Oval and Rotaract Park is expected to be completed this week, with only some minor works still to be finished after that time.
