The Victorian Government has made travelling in Ballarat CBD safer for residents and visitors following the completion of major upgrades at one of the city's busiest intersections.
New traffic signals and a new crossing point has now been installed at the intersection of Sturt and Drummond Streets.
The new pedestrian crossing and traffic signals will connect the shared user path and allow people to cross the centre median safely, improving walking and cycling access.
The extensive works included boring, excavation and installation of cabling, new signals, new kerbs, crossings and LED lanterns, line marking and road resurfacing.
Existing traffic signals have now been upgraded to LED to improve efficiency.
The intersection of Sturt and Drummond Street is one of Ballarat's busiest, with these works creating a consistent shared path along Sturt Street for pedestrians and cyclists.
Traffic management was in place throughout the works, maintaining access in all directions for emergency services as well as access to local businesses.
The works are funded under the $9.3 million Ballarat Safer Cycling Connections program, which is improving safety and accessibility around the city for cyclists and pedestrians. Part of these funds were allocated to six intersection upgrades in Sturt Street, which are now complete.
