Upgrading LEFL South Jetty In Lakes Entrance

VIC Premier

The Andrews Labor Government is upgrading a popular jetty in Lakes Entrance to benefit boaters, fishers and visitors to the area.

Minister for Ports and Freight Melissa Horne said the Lakes Entrance Fishing Cooperative (LEFL) South Jetty on Bullock Island will be rebuilt, as part of an $18 million package for piers and jetties across Victoria from the Victorian Budget 2022-23.

The LEFL South Jetty is home to the largest fishing fleet in Lakes Entrance -and plays a significant role in supporting the local economy.

The investment will see critical works take place on the jetty to support loading of commercial fishing vessels and continue to bring in around 3,000,000 kilograms of seafood each year.

The works will also make the jetty safer and more accessible for the community to enjoy.

The Labor Government will work closely with Gippsland Ports, the local port manager, and other stakeholders to progress project planning at the site.

As part of the Victorian Budget 2022-23 package, rebuilding and safety works will also be undertaken to piers and jetties at McLoughlins Beach, Mornington, Sorrento, Portsea, Hampton, Rye, Flinders and Williamstown.

As stated by Minister for Ports and Freight Melissa Horne

"LEFL South Jetty is home to the largest fishing fleet in Lakes Entrance, and these improvements will ensure commercial fishers and the community can get the most out of the jetty for years to come."

"The upgrade will not only improve safety and access for locals, but also support loading of commercial fishing vessels and continue to bring in around 3,000,000 kilograms of seafood each year - a huge boost to the local economy."

As stated by Member for Eastern Victoria Jane Garrett

"We know how important the LEFL South Jetty is to the community and that's why we're rebuilding it to ensure it can be used well into the future, with improved access for fishers, boaters and visitors."
