Grants are now available to Tasmanian councils and regional development authorities to plant climate tolerant trees in urban environments.
Minister for Environment, Madeline Ogilvie, said grants up to $40,000 are available to eligible organisations for projects which involve planting climate tolerant trees which increase canopy cover and carbon storage.
"Grant funding of $200,000 is available through this important program which will support projects of all sizes that directly benefit our local communities," Minister Ogilvie said.
"Urban greening is known to provide a range of benefits to communities, such as cooling our urban places, improving air quality and storm water management, enhancing biodiversity, and improving human health and wellbeing.
"Planting more trees better suited to withstand changes in the climate will be important in helping our urban environments, and our people, adapt and build resilience during periods of high temperatures into the future.
"The Tasmanian Government is delivering for Tasmanians by providing programs which take practical action and increase the resilience of our urban communities to the impacts of climate change."
Applications for the grant program are now open and will close on 5 May 2026.
