USAID Chief Power in Talks with Sudan's Gen. Dagalo

USAID

Today, Administrator Samantha Power spoke with General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo of Sudan's Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on the alarming humanitarian situation in Sudan, where she outlined the unacceptable challenges to the delivery of life-saving aid and emphasized the critical importance of protecting civilians. Administrator Power stressed her deep concerns about the catastrophic levels of food insecurity in Sudan resulting from the conflict. Administrator Power noted significant obstructions to the delivery of life-saving aid in areas under RSF control and urged General Dagalo and his forces to provide safe, sustained, and unhindered humanitarian access for aid to reach the most vulnerable. Administrator Power raised concerns about continued reports of atrocities against civilians, including killing, sexual violence, abductions, attacks on agricultural production, and destruction of villages and other civilian infrastructure. Administrator Power also requested that General Dagalo work with U.S. Special Envoy Tom Perriello, UN Envoy for Sudan Ramtame Lamamra, humanitarian partners, and other key stakeholders to stop the violence and allow the uninterrupted and expedited flow of humanitarian assistance.
