The University of Texas at Arlington's innovative School of Social Work/College of Nursing and Health Innovation Smart Hospital Building received a generous gift that will support cutting-edge learning and teaching.
The Hoblitzelle Foundation has made a $100,000 gift to support educational efforts in nursing and social work programs. The University will name a terrace in the foundation's honor.
"The Hoblitzelle Foundation sees UTA as an important partner in training and developing the North Texas workforce," said Katie Robbins, president and CEO of Hoblitzelle Foundation. "Specifically as it relates to nursing and social work, UTA provides access to these much-needed careers at a reasonable cost for students."
The 150,000-square-foot building, which celebrated its ribbon cutting in April 2023, provides students with state-of-the-art learning spaces enriched with the latest technology, including:
- a Smart Hospital with medical robots able to simulate a variety of scenarios;
- a classroom set up as an apartment suite where social work and nursing students can practice in-home services;
- and a virtual reality lab where students can practice interacting with patients.
"The School of Social Work/Smart Hospital Building has helped spark unmatched learning and teaching by bringing our social work and nursing students under one roof," UTA President Jennifer Cowley said. "We are thankful for the Hoblitzelle Foundation's generous support of these efforts."
Hoblitzelle Foundation was established by Karl and Esther Hoblitzelle in 1942 for charitable, scientific, literacy or educational purposes within the state of Texas. Since the foundation's inception, its directors have approved over 3,400 grants, investing over $252 million in social service, cultural, educational and medical organizations in Texas.
