In a big boost to our rollout program, Australia will be receiving one million doses of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine per week from 19 July - tripling the current rate of supply.
This will greatly increase our supply of the Pfizer vaccine - and support an acceleration of the rollout of vaccines across the country.
This week, we reached a total number of 9.1 million vaccine doses administered across the country. We passed 9 million doses on Friday, only seven days after reaching the 8 million, and we continue to look for opportunities to further accelerate.
This week, we had over 500 General Practices who commenced administering Pfizer and in the coming week we will have more than 1000 Primary care sites across the country administering Pfizer, along with the State and Territory clinics.
State and territory clinics have now administered more than 3.9 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine.
More than 6.7 million people in Australia have now received at least one dose of vaccine. This includes 73 percent of people aged 70 and over, and 57 percent of people aged 50 and over.
To support the NSW Government's response to the current outbreak in Sydney, we are bringing forward an additional 300,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines for NSW.
These additional doses - 150,000 Pfizer and 150,000 AstraZeneca - will be targeted where they are most needed, based upon direction from NSW Health.
Supplying and producing the vaccine
The ability to manufacture vaccines onshore has been essential to the progress of our rollout and CSL has now manufactured and supplied 11m doses of vaccine for use in Australia.
Last week, 300,690 doses of Pfizer and 260,100 doses of AstraZeneca were released for distribution.
Over the coming days, the Therapeutic Goods Administration will conduct sample testing of 500,760 doses of Pfizer vaccine, along with 281,500 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine produced onshore by CSL, prior to releasing the vaccines for distribution.
Distributing the vaccine
With support from our Distribution Partners DHL and Linfox, more than 855,000 vaccine doses were delivered across Australia to metropolitan, rural and remote locations, along with 2,463 deliveries of consumables.
- Ordering and Delivery. 99.9% of vaccine orders were completed last week with two orders to be finalised today.
- Australia's assistance to the Pacific. This week another 120,000 doses were made available for distribution to the Pacific. In the coming week, another 120,000 doses will be made available, taking the total to more than 743,000 doses provided to DFAT. This will help our friends across the Pacific, including Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste, Fiji, Solomon Islands, Samoa and Tuvalu.
Administering the vaccine
This week, 894,344 doses were administered across the country, taking the total number of doses administered 9.1 million. It took 47 days to reach our first million doses of vaccine administered and 7 days for the most recent.
- Total sites. This week we had a total of 5115 General Practices, 136 Commonwealth Vaccination Centres (CVC), 65 Pharmacies and 158 Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHS) delivering vaccines, along with 830 state and territory sites, taking the total number of vaccination sites across the country to 6,303. In the coming week, we will have 5 additional General Practices administering AstraZeneca.
- General Practice transition to Pfizer. In the coming week, we will have 933 General Practices, 109 CVC and 35 ACCHS administering Pfizer, along with the State and Territory clinics.
- Aged Care. With our vaccine workforce service providers, we continue to focus on those most at risk in our residential aged care facilities, and have now completed first and second dose visits to all 2,566 facilities, while continuing to conduct roving clinics across VIC and NSW.
- Disability. We continue to ramp up our visits to disability residents with complex needs who require in-reach services. More than 13,700 people with a disability in a residential setting have now received at least one dose of vaccine, with additional vaccine workforce providers on board to accelerate the rollout in the coming weeks.
