vandals pull down deterrent measures that stuarts point sports fields

Vandals have undone the hard work carried out to ensure the Stuarts Point sports fields can be used for the upcoming cricket season.

Kempsey Shire Council was informed by a member of the public that star pickets were pulled out and bunting tape cut around 150 times at Stuarts Point sports fields only days after they were installed.

This is disappointing as the star pickets and bunting tape were put up to deter Rainbow Bee-Eaters from building nests on the sports fields. These measures were done for the benefit of the cricket club and so that residents could enjoy the fields.

Council crews were onsite Friday 26 August to put the web-like pattern back up. Council asks that no one interferes with works as this can impact whether the fields stay open.

If Rainbow Bee-Eaters begin nesting here again, Council may be forced to close the fields as these are protected under the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 (NSW).
