Victoria names Second XI squad for WA clash

Victoria has made five changes to the second XI squad that faced Queensland last week.

Jono Merlo, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Mackenzie Harvey, Ruwantha Kellapotha and Jack Prestwidge return to the squad after featuring in Victoria's Marsh One-Day Cup and Sheffield Shield sides.

Merlo will captain the Victorian Second XI side for the first time.

"Jono has been seen as a leader within the Victorian squad for some time, so we're pleased to provide him with the opportunity to captain this side," Cricket Victoria's Head of Male Cricket, David Hussey said.

"In the last week we've seen how important the Second XI competition is to allow our players to step up to Sheffield Shield cricket with four-day matches under their belt and the right preparation to perform at the higher level.

"Our aim in this competition is to expose our players to high-quality red-ball cricket, the way that Campbell Kellaway and Liam Blackford batted in both innings of our last match was really exciting for Victorian cricket.

"There is a lot of talent in this squad, which should be a good match-up for the squad that WA brings over."
