Victoria River Research Station field day rescheduled

Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade

Cattle producers and pastoralists are being encouraged to register for the rescheduled Victoria River Research Station (VRRS) field day and BeefUp forum being held later this year.

The Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade (the department) has partnered with Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA) and the Northern Territory Cattlemen's Association (NTCA) to hold the event on 19 and 20 November at the Daly Waters Historic Pub.

Moving the VRRS event to a new location will ensure field day participants have the opportunity to gather with local producers and industry, and to engage with informative presentations and workshops at a central location. Through these interactions, attendees will be able to get the latest technical information and research results relevant to northern Australian cattle producers, pastoralists and other industry professionals.

The field day was rescheduled due to the recent COVID-19 lockdown in Katherine. The venue has also been changed to provide more suitable accommodation for attendees staying overnight, when it would otherwise have been uncomfortably warm at the Victoria River Research Station.

An updated agenda will be available on the event website in the coming weeks and registration remains open for the free event on the MLA website.

During the MLA BeefUp forum on Friday, 19 November the topics covered will include how to maximise production and profitability in northern Australia, live exports, reducing calf losses, pain relief trials for cattle and water medication delivery research.

As part of the 'Cattle, Carbon and Country' field day on Saturday, 20 November the department will present research from extension officers and researchers on topics such as carbon farming, the future of the live export trade, current research projects and increasing profitability in production systems.

The event at Daly Waters will provide an important opportunity for sharing knowledge, developing skills, and raising awareness about projects and research, as well as networking with key industry stakeholders.
