Victoria has today unveiled its opening squad for its 2025/26 Dean Jones Trophy campaign, which begins with two crucial away games against Queensland and Tasmania at Brisbane's Allan Border Field.
Captain, Will Sutherland, will lead Victoria in Wednesday's opening match, before flying to India to join the Australia A four-day squad, with the experienced Peter Handscomb taking the reins for Friday's day-nighter against Tasmania.
Handscomb and opener Marcus Harris return to the Victorian set-up after standout county stints with Leicestershire and Lancashire, respectively.
International superstars Glenn Maxwell and Matt Short have also been named in the navy blue, bringing elite firepower to the middle order and world-class versatility with the ball. Both players will feature in the opening matches before joining the national squad for the upcoming Australia vs New Zealand T20I series.
Young guns Harry Dixon and Sam Elliott, both selected in the Australia A one-day squad, will be available for both matches before flying out to represent the nation in a three-match series against India A.
Bowlers David Moody and Callum Stow are in line to make their Victorian one-day debuts, with both players impressing throughout the pre-season. Stow, in particular, has caught the eye following strong performances for the Renegades in the recent Top End series and a composed showing in trial matches against New South Wales in Sydney.
After reaching the inaugural Dean Jones Trophy Final last summer, Victoria is determined to take it one step further in 2026.
Head Coach Chris Rogers said the squad is energised and ready to perform.
"When you represent Victoria, you play to win – every game and competition we enter, we aim to lift the trophy. The players have done the work over winter, they're hungry to improve on last year's finish, and they're proud to represent Victoria with everything that comes with it. We want to start this season strong and set the tone early."
In line with the 130-year celebrations of Victorian cricket, the team will be playing in a heritage-inspired uniform that connects past to present – honouring the proud legacy of Victorian one-day cricket, while forging new chapters with a bold and balanced squad.
