Victoria University has retained the top level of Workplace Gender Equality Citation from the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) .
Having held the citation since 2019, VU has now achieved reaccreditation for the period 2026 - 2028. The citation recognises our continuing commitment to addressing barriers to gender equality within higher education.
As one of only three universities across the country with accreditation, this recognition reflects our leadership commitment and acknowledges a broad range of initiatives delivered by VU to advance progressive inclusivity :
- gender balanced leadership levels
- employer-funded paid parental leave
- increasing access and support for family domestic violence leave
- exceeding benchmarks on staff engagement survey results on supporting caring responsibilities and taking action on the prevention of gender based violence
- flexible working arrangements, including hybrid working, compressed working weeks, and purchase leave arrangements
- taking action on closing the gender pay gap, with an intersectional focus
- continuing to build inclusive leadership programs.
WGEA CEO Mary Wooldridge congratulated VU's achievement.
"Holding the Workplace Gender Equality Citation provides national recognition that Victoria University is deeply committed to positive action to achieve gender equality in their workplace," Ms Wooldridge said.
"Citation holders demonstrate strong gender-equal outcomes at the moments that matter most to women and men at work. They go beyond policy and programs, embedding gender equality into the everyday employee experience.
"Committing to clear targets and using insights from employee surveys, these employers turn data into action, strengthening safety, fairness and opportunity for everyone in their organisation."
VU's Chief Human Resources Officer, Simone Wright, welcomed the reaccreditation noting VU is committed to further improvements including closing the gender pay gap. This is through transparent reporting, acknowledging disparities, and targeted strategies to enhance equality.
"At our core, VU has a commitment to creating a thriving place to work. A focus on gender equality is key to this and it benefits everyone," Ms Wright said.
VU's 2022-2025 Gender Equality Action Plan has guided a whole-of-university approach to gender equality. VU's next Gender Equality Action Plan 2026-2030 will be launched in May, building on this momentum and continuing a focus on an intersectional approach to gender equality, a plan which is explicitly inclusive of people who are non-binary.
