Victorian cricket figures recognised in 2026 Australia Day Honours

Cricket Victoria congratulates a number of Victorian contributors to the game who have been recognised in the 2026 Australia Day Honours, highlighted by the appointment of former Australian captain Anne Gordon AM.

Gordon, one of the most influential figures in the history of Australian women's cricket, was made a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for her significant service to cricket as a player, selector and administrator.

A left-arm medium pacer from Victoria, Gordon represented Australia in nine Test matches and eight One Day Internationals between 1968 and 1977. In just her second Test appearance against England in 1968, she became only the second woman to take 10 wickets in a match, including two five-wicket hauls.

Gordon captained Australia on the historic 1976 tours of the West Indies and England, including leading the team in the first women's match played at Lord's – a defining moment in the advancement of women's cricket globally.

Following her playing career, Gordon continued to shape the game through leadership roles as a selector for Victoria, Chair of Selectors for Surrey and England, and as an ongoing contributor to cricket at all levels.

Cricket Victoria also congratulates the following Victorian recipients recognised for their service to cricket:

  • Gavin Ashley Foenander OAM (Traralgon) - For service to cricket
  • Dr Paul Geoffrey Sinclair OAM (Brunswick) - For service to conservation and cricket
  • Lorraine Merle Woodman OAM (Altona) - For service to cricket and the community

These honours recognise the breadth of contribution to cricket in Victoria, from elite performance and leadership to grassroots participation, volunteering and community engagement.
