Victorian Government must now support the NEG

The Victorian Chamber welcomes both the constructive outcome on the National Energy Guarantee (NEG) from the recent COAG Energy Council meeting and the Federal Coalition party room’s majority endorsement of the policy.

It is now time for Victoria to support the NEG to improve policy predictability and encourage new investment in electricity generation.

Energy users need the NEG along with implementation of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission Retail Electricity Pricing Inquiry recommendations to drive down energy costs, reduce emissions and deliver more security.

Victorian businesses are struggling with high energy costs, which limits their ability to hire staff and invest. In some cases, their continued operation is under threat. Victoria’s energy intensive, exporting manufacturers are particularly exposed as they are unable to pass on higher costs.

The Victorian Chamber looks forward to working with State and federal governments to drive these actions forward to support Victorian business.
