Victorians In Firing Line For More Labor Taxes

Liberal Party Victoria

Victorians are being softened up for another round of Labor taxes with the Federal Government modelling itself on the Allan Labor Government and tacitly admitting it is considering increasing property taxes in Australia.

There are growing concerns the upcoming Economic Reform Roundtable is going to be used to increase taxes, with Treasurer Jim Chalmers confirming that he is not going to "knock off" a proposal to increase property taxes.

Shadow Treasurer, James Newbury, said: "Federal Labor's mask has slipped, and their great big new tax agenda is the real reason for the roundtable."

"Premier Jacinta Allan should be standing up for Victorians and stopping Treasurer Chalmers from adding to Victorian's tax burden.

Victoria is the most taxed in the country, having been saddled with 63 new or increased taxes under state Labor, 30 of which are property taxes.

The impact of the property tax burden is significant, and the construction sector is struggling as a consequence.

"Victorians know the damage that State Labor's tax agenda has had on our economy, just as we know how damaging any new taxes from Federal Labor would be on our country," Mr Newbury said.

New and increased taxes imposed by the state Labor Government have damaged the broader Victorian economy with:

  • T
  • Almost 181,000 Victorians now unemployed as Victoria stretches to a record 16 months as the state with the highest unemployment in the country.

"The Liberals and Nationals have a plan to get our economy moving again, with five tax cuts at the heart of it. We know that to kick start this economy, we need to reduce the tax burden," Mr Newbury said.

"Jacinta Allan should stand with Victorians and not her Labor mates in Canberra and oppose any additional Commonwealth tax burden."
