A candlelight vigil will be held in the City of Logan next week to remember and respect those impacted by domestic and family violence.
The event has been organised in partnership by Logan City Council and the Not Now, Not Ever in Logan Reference Group.
The vigil is from 5.15pm to 6.30pm on Wednesday, May 3 on the forecourt of the Logan Entertainment Centre in Logan Central.
It marks the beginning of Queensland's Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) Prevention Month and is an opportunity for the community to come together and say no to domestic and family violence.
As well as lighting candles, attendees can also write inspirational messages to adorn a 'Hope Tree', which will be later planted.
Council's Administration Building in Logan Central and three water towers at Underwood, Shailer Park and Hillcrest will be illuminated purple and orange throughout May to mark DFVPM.
Mayor Darren Power invites the community to pause and reflect by taking part in this moving and important event.
"This vigil provides an opportunity to strengthen our resolve to speak out against domestic and family violence, which sadly often remains hidden," Cr Power said.
"We want to send a clear message that any form of violence is never acceptable.
"We also want to remember those who have lost their lives and the people left behind - family, friends, neighbours and workmates."
Prior to the vigil next Wednesday, Division 11 Councillor Natalie Willcocks will unveil plaques on a bench seat at Spring Mountain Lagoon Park.
It is the latest of several bench seats installed across the city to raise awareness about domestic and family violence.
