Vice President Kamala Harris met in London today with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak of the United Kingdom. The leaders reaffirmed Israel's right to defend itself following the appalling Hamas terrorist attack on October 7. They discussed the latest developments in Gaza including progress made today to allow foreign nationals to leave Gaza, which they welcomed. The Vice President and Prime Minister Sunak discussed the importance of the protection of civilians in Gaza, the law of war and increasing the pace and scale of humanitarian assistance to innocent civilians in Gaza. The Vice President welcomed the United States' close cooperation with the United Kingdom on security and economic support to Ukraine, which is critical to sustaining Ukraine's defense and democratic institutions in the face of Russian aggression. In advance of the Global Summit on Artificial Intelligence (AI) Safety, to be held at Bletchley Park, UK, on November 2, the Vice President and Prime Minister reiterated their shared commitment to ensuring that the rules of the road for AI reflect our democratic values and that new technology equitably improves people's lives and livelihoods.
