WA Agrifood Firms Tap Emerging Market at HOFEX

Western Australian agrifood and beverages have been showcased at one of the Asian region's leading trade exhibitions, HOFEX Hong Kong, with the support of the Cook Government.

WA's display featured 13 businesses, covering a wide range of seafood, condiments, healthy snacks and beverages, artisanal spirits, and luxury gourmet hampers.

The event, which attracted more than 30,000 visitors, is a key platform for businesses to promote their products to potential export customers from the Asia Pacific Region.

Hong Kong is a strategically important trading partner for WA agrifood exports, worth more than $215 million per annum.

It is considered a gateway into the Northeast Asia market and a growing market for premium, quality produce.

WA businesses had the opportunity to gain insights into these key markets, with briefings, retail visits and introductions organised by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development.

Large international trade exhibitions, like HOFEX, are a key component of the Cook Government's Diversify WA program to promote WA businesses' unique strengths and capabilities.

HOFEX is a new addition to the State's program of trade exhibitions, including Food&HotelAsia Singapore last month, FOODEX Japan in March, and Gulfood UAE in February 2025.

As stated by Agriculture and Food Minister Jackie Jarvis:

"The Cook Government has been working hard to develop the Hong Kong market and connect WA agrifood and beverage suppliers with potential buyers.

"Hong Kong imports over 90 per cent of its food, making it a major import market in the Asia Pacific Region and a place with great potential for WA export growth.

"It has a cosmopolitan food culture and local consumers are also health-focused, which puts WA in a strong position as an exporter of choice thanks to our reputation for premium quality fresh produce and products.

"Face-to-face trade engagement at events like HOFEX is critical to help convert buyer opportunities into strong supply relationships that build our agrifood and beverage industry, diversify our economy and create jobs."
