Science and Innovation Minister Stephen Dawson will travel to Malaysia and Singapore to strengthen regional partnerships and advance Western Australia's profile in science, innovation and technology.
The visit will include leading Western Australia's attendance at three major international events, the ASEAN Business and Investment Summit in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore International Energy Week and the Singapore Week of Innovation and Technology (SWITCH). The events provide a platform to showcase WA's expertise in renewable energy, research and emerging technologies.
The visit also provides the opportunity to promote key upcoming events in Perth focusing on WA's reputation as a regional hub for innovation and technology collaboration, including West Tech Fest 2025 and Energy Exchange Australia 2026.
Marking the first ministerial visit to Malaysia since 2019, Minister Dawson will officially open Invest and Trade Western Australia's Kuala Lumpur office, supporting WA businesses seeking to expand into key ASEAN markets.
In Singapore, the mission will build on previous visits by the Minister and Premier in 2025, which focused on emerging medtech opportunities and WA's contribution to the global energy transition, respectively.
The Singapore visit will conclude with SWITCH. A delegation of WA startup and scaleup founders are travelling for the event with the support of the Cook Government's New Industries and Innovation Fund, Curtin University and West Tech Fest.
As stated by Science and Innovation Minister Stephen Dawson:
"This mission reinforces the Cook Government's commitment to building strong regional partnerships that support innovation, investment and economic diversification across the State.
"Western Australia has strong and enduring ties with our regional neighbours, and this visit will further strengthen our partnerships in energy, innovation and research.
"Malaysia and Singapore are key partners in the region, and we share a commitment to driving sustainable growth through science and technology.
"This visit is about opening doors for Western Australian businesses and researchers to connect with regional partners, attract new investment, and showcase our State's capability on the international stage."
