Western Australian volunteer firefighters and career officers are joining the battle against the bushfires raging in Queensland.
Thirty-three firefighters flew out today (September 12) to relieve their exhausted Queensland counterparts, with conditions in parts of southern Queensland forecast to worsen in the coming days.
The crews will work on the fire fronts as well as in logistics and support.
Emergency Services Minister Francis Logan and Fire and Emergency Services Commissioner Darren Klemm farewelled the group at Perth Airport today to wish them luck and to thank them on behalf of the WA community.
As stated by Emergency Services Minister Francis Logan:
"These volunteers not only give up their time for their local communities, but they're now putting their work, families and friends on hold while they help out their fellow Australians.
"Queensland is facing horrendous fires in very tough conditions so our Western Australian firefighters will be a welcome relief.
"All States and Territories come together during times like these to show that the Australian spirit of mateship is alive and well.
"I want to wish these crews all the best and urge them to stay safe as they help bring these fires under control."
