  • The Antarctica Experience will screen at the WA Maritime Museum for six weeks, from September 1 to October 14
  • The production is the work of local filmmaker Briege Whitehead, and is supported by the WA Maritime Museum, the Australian Antarctic Division, Screenwest, Lotterywest and Screen Australia

The world premiere of the cutting-edge film, The Antarctica Experience will take place tonight at the WA Maritime Museum in Fremantle.

The Antarctica Experience is a virtual reality (VR) film using the latest technology in 3-D, 360-degree, high definition video, drones and a specially designed soundscape - and is the next best thing to visiting the frozen continent.

The groundbreaking, immersive experience is the work of Western Australian filmmaker Briege Whitehead, of White Spark Pictures, who partnered with BAFTA award-winning director Phil Harper, known for his work on David Attenborough's Great Barrier Reef VR Dive. The narration is by Australian actor David Wenham.

During The Antarctica Experience, the audience will be able to:

  • Explore Antarctica from a helicopter cockpit, even landing on a glacier;
  • Explore Australia's Davis research station and learn about the logistics that go into surviving the harsh Antarctic conditions; and
  • View the spectacular Southern Lights in high definition.

It is proudly supported by the Western Australian Museum, Screenwest, Lotterywest and Screen Australia. White Spark Pictures travelled to Antarctica with the support of the Australian Antarctic Program.

The Antarctica Experience will screen exclusively at the WA Maritime Museum in Fremantle from tomorrow (September 1) to October 14, 2018.
