WA Sport & Recreation Events Secured Funding for 2026

  • WA Government funding available to deliver sport and recreation events in 2026
  • Funding program helping to strengthen WA's reputation as a world-class sporting events destination
  • Part of the Cook Government's commitment to diversifying the economy and creating local jobs

The Western Australian Government is offering funding support to help organisations deliver a vibrant calendar of sport and recreation events across the State in 2026.

Applications for the next round of the Sport and Recreation Events Funding Program are open to help organisations to plan, secure and deliver events across metropolitan and regional WA.

From major sporting tournaments to mass participation events, the WA Government program aims to grow and diversify the State's sport and recreation events calendar.

More than 40 sport and active recreation organisations shared in $1.48 million in grants through the program last year, including Broome's Big Ocean Community Swim, the Bike it to Ballidu Gravel ride, the Avon Descent Festival, the 2025 WA Open Golf Championship, and the 2025 Martu Youth Festival.

The program aims to support the delivery of a diverse range of sport and recreation events that attract participants and spectators to WA - strengthening communities, boosting local economies, and enhancing WA's reputation as a world-class event destination.

The program funding also helps organisations plan strategically for the future, supporting the development of event strategies and tender proposals to attract major events to WA.

Applications are now open for events scheduled between 1 January 2026 and 31 December 31 2026, closing at 11.59pm on 24 November 2025.

As stated by Sport and Recreation Minister Rita Saffioti:

"We have seen this program support the delivery of a wide variety of sport and recreation events in recent years delivering huge benefits right across our State.

"A strong sport and recreation events calendar not only creates healthier, more connected communities but brings competitors and spectators to Western Australia.

"The WA Government is proud to invest in these events that boost our local economies, create jobs and strengthen our State's reputation as a premier sport and recreation events destination."
