- Cook Government investing in a more inclusive community so that all Western Australians can feel safe at home, at work and in the community
The Cook Government has launched Western Australia's first LGBTIQA+ Inclusion Strategy today following extensive public consultation.
The strategy was launched to mark PrideFEST Fairday as part of PrideFEST 2025.
The 10-year strategy and accompanying five-year action plan outline the key priority areas for building a safer, more inclusive WA for LGBTIQA+ communities.
The strategy identifies four priority areas:
- Belonging, connection and visibility;
- Safety, equity and wellbeing;
- Systems, services and data; and
- Leadership, education and awareness.
As part of the actions, the Cook Government has announced the opening of a new grants program totalling $252,000 to support pilots, projects and initiatives that align with the strategy's priorities.
The LGBTIQA+ Inclusion Grants Program offers two grant streams, with grants of up to $10,000 for eligible organisations and local governments and up to $25,000 available for collaborative projects.
The strategy was developed through extensive consultation with LGBTIQA+ individuals, communities and organisations, through the strategy Reference Group to ensure it reflects the lived experiences of people who are LGBTIQA+ and responds to their diverse needs.
The strategy was shaped by the 2,400 responses received, with consultation launched at PrideFEST last year, and taking place online and in person all over the State.
The development of the strategy was led by the Department of Communities in partnership with Western Australia's LGBTIQA+ peak body Rainbow Futures WA, the LGBTIQA+ Reference Group and three non-government organisations: Living Proud, Transfolk WA and GLBTI Rights in Ageing Inc (GRAI).
Applications for the LGBTIQA+ Inclusion Grants Program are now open until 3pm Monday, 16 February 2026.
