Community organisations and local governments will receive funding to help celebrate their volunteers as part of International Volunteer Day.
Seventy-four community organisations and local governments will receive funding totalling $70,000 to help celebrate their volunteers as part of International Volunteer Day, which is held on 5 December each year.
Recognising the important role that volunteers play in supporting connected and inclusive local communities is a key focus of the WA Volunteering Strategy and Action Plan (2023 - 2026). One of the ways in which the Department of Communities demonstrates support for this initiative is through the International Volunteer Day Grants Program.
Grants of up to $1,000 will go towards activities such as volunteer award ceremonies, workshops, morning or afternoon teas and more.
Some of the supported proposals include an Alice in Wonderland-theme morning tea by the Exmouth Toy Library, a barbecue and treasure hunt by Girl Guides Western Australia, a traditional Australian barbecue dinner and animal themed quiz by Kanyana Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre and a free live music sundowner by Investing in our Youth in the South-West.
