Families across the shire are invited to take part in Walk to Kinder Month this November.
Walk to Kinder is a VicHealth initiative to encourage families to walk, ride or scoot, even part of the way to kinder, and experience the benefits of having more energy, being ready to learn and creating healthy habits for life.
To celebrate Walk to Kinder Month, Council has partnered with Colac Area Health and Victoria Police to deliver a range of fun and educational activities for more than 240 kindergarten children across the shire.
Council's Youth Engagement Project Officer Nikki Karpeles said, in addition to supporting children to get active, this year's focus is also on making healthy food choices.
"We are putting an extra focus on healthy eating to build on the impact of the 12 kindergartens participating in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation Program, which is being supported by Council's VicHealth partnership.
"Physical activity and healthy eating go hand-in-hand to creating a thriving community.
"We are also grateful to our partners who have generously donated their time to provide fun and educational opportunities for the children to reinforce important road safety and healthy eating messages," she said.
Colac Area Health will be visiting participating kindergartens to provide fun games about the many benefits of eating vegetables.
Local Victoria Police constables will join children on their walk helping them to better understand how to cross the road safely.
Council's Local Laws Rangers will also bring along their mobile crossing strips to teach children how to safely use a school crossing, in preparation for their transition to primary school.
