Wanted disqualified driver in court after officer injured in fail to stop incident - Bondi Junction

A disqualified driver wanted by police has been arrested and charged after an officer was injured in a fail to stop motor vehicle incident in Sydney's east earlier this month.

About 9.45pm on Saturday 2 January 2021, plain clothes police attached to Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command were conducting proactive patrols in the Bondi Junction area targeting drug-related crime.

Officers drove their unmarked vehicle, with police lights activated, into a driveway at the rear of a block of units on Hollywood Avenue, and attempted to speak with a man in a red Ford Fiesta.

The officers exited their vehicle, presented their police identification, and signalled for the vehicle to stop.

The driver allegedly accelerated towards the officers, hitting a male constable, causing him to spin around and be dragged by the car.

The driver allegedly failed to stop check on the officer's welfare and left the scene in the Fiesta.

Further officers attached to Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command immediately attended and detectives commenced an investigation.

The injured officer was taken to St Vincent's Hospital for treatment of soft tissue injuries to his left leg and wrist. He has since been released, however, is still undergoing rehabilitation.

Following extensive inquiries, officers from South West Metropolitan Region Operations Support Group arrested a 27-year-old man, who was wanted on an outstanding warrant, at a service station on General Holmes Drive, Brighton-Le-Sands, about 10.30pm yesterday (Sunday 24 January 2021).

During a subsequent search of the man, police located and seized cannabis and cocaine.

He was taken to St George Police Station and charged with drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, two counts of possess prohibited drug and the outstanding warrant was executed for the offences of use offensive weapon to prevent police investigation, assault police officer in execution of duty cause actual bodily harm, two counts of drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, not give particulars to other driver, and two counts of not stop at stop line at red light.

The Greenacre man was refused bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court today (Monday 25 January 2021).
