Gwydir Shire Council is committed to keeping our community informed about the Warialda water supply.
Since PFAS contamination was detected in late 2024, we have been conducting regular testing to ensure your water remains safe. Here is the latest:
Four samples taken from the Crane Street bore this year have shown zero PFAS contamination. This bore had previously tested with PFAS levels in excess of the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines and was taken offline. This week, Council ran a trial using the bore, in isolation from the town water supply. A further sample was taken to ensure infiltration does not occur with changing water levels within the aquifer. Results from the sample are expected next week and will help us decide if the bore can return to service.
Furthermore, a hydrogeologist has identified a suitable new bore site, with completion of the bore drilling forecast by the end of November.
Council staff continue to monitor water quality to ensure PFAS-free water for our community.
