The NSW Government today announced it would repair and reopen the King Street jetty and boat skid ramp on Lake Illawarra at Warrawong in time for the public to enjoy next summer.
Minister for Water, Property and Housing Melinda Pavey said tenders for the project would be invited in coming days, with work expected to start within the next couple of months.
"The King Street jetty and boat skid ramp have been closed in recent years due to public safety concerns," Mrs Pavey said.
"The Government is investing about $2.5 million so these structures can once again be made safe for public use, with work to be fast-tracked so they will be reopened and ready for use from the 2021/22 summer.
"Reopening this jetty will go a long way to greatly enhancing the Warrawong community's enjoyment of the lake and be of great benefit to lake users and visitors alike."
The repairs and upgrade work will be funded by the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment's Housing and Property Group, which manages 32ha of government-owned land on the Lake Illawarra foreshore at Warrawong, inherited from the former Lake Illawarra Authority.
The King Street jetty works are in addition to the $1.3 million stimulus funding the Government has committed to the upgrade and repair of Lake Illawarra jetties managed by Crown Lands.
