Waste Depot Wastewater Incident

Kiama Council

Tip-closed-wastewater-leak

Kiama Council advises the Minnamurra Waste and Recycling Depot is currently closed to public while clean up occurs after experiencing an onsite sewerage system incident on Friday 20 February.

The incident, which involved some wastewater leaking within the site, affected the weighbridge building and carpark. The incident was isolated and contained to these two hardstand areas and no overflow escaped anywhere else on site.

The incident has been reported via Council's internal risk management systems and there is no risk to human health.

There will be no impact to Council's cleaning or garbage collection schedules, and all bins will be picked up as normal.

However, while the flooring is replaced inside the weighbridge building, the weighbridge cannot be used for financial transactions, which means we cannot serve the public.

Staff have been relocated to other work sites and the facility will remain closed to the public.

New flooring will be laid inside the weighbridge building this week and the facility is expected to open next week.

Kiama Council apologises for any inconvenience caused.
