Water rescue Flinders Island

Police and Paramedics worked together this morning to rescue a boatie in trouble off of the Eyre Peninsula.

At 2.20am Friday 15 September emergency services were alerted to an EPIRB activation from Flinders Island, about 30km west of Elliston.

A Challenger 604 aircraft was deployed from Perth to attend the area while police and paramedics left in PolAir from Adelaide.

Both PolAir and the Challenger arrived at the scene about 6.30am. A SAAS paramedic was winched down to the vessel bringing the patient back up to the helicopter.

The patient, a 70-year-old NSW man was flown to the Port Lincoln Hospital for treatment.

Police would like to thank everyone involved in the safe retrieval of the man, including Flinders Island locals who rendered assistance.
