The design guidelines for future developments in the Townsville City Waterfront Priority Development Area (PDA) have been officially enacted after being adopted by Townsville City Council last November.
The guidelines provide clarity for the types of building and design standards that may be used in future developments throughout the PDA, including public spaces such as parks and walkways.
Townsville Acting Mayor Les Walker said the PDA guidelines align with Council's Townsville 2020 vision, which aims to provide world-class experiences for locals and visitors while enhancing our unique North Queensland lifestyle.
"Townsville 2020 was implemented to provide a clear vision for our city – these guidelines will ensure we attract developments that are suited for the Priority Development Area," Cr Walker said.
"The PDA will encourage development along the Ross Creek and provides residents and businesses with certainty about what these developments may be."
Cr Walker said the PDA has already shown to be a drawcard to secure major investments in the city.
"The PDA has been essential in securing some of the major projects within the city, including the North Queensland Stadium and progressing the transformation of the North Rail Yards," Cr Walker said.
"Getting these guidelines right was important to give investors and developers the confidence to put forward projects to transform the city and create job opportunities for locals."
The guidelines were adopted at the Full Council meeting on 27 November 2018.
