From Sunday 16 February until mid-2026, the footpath along Watson Street between McCarthy Court and the Wallara Waters-Commercial Drive roundabout will be closed for safety. Pedestrians will not be able to walk across the Watson Street bridge during this time.
The closure is part of the Watson Street Interchange Upgrade. Delivered by Big Build Roads, the project will transform Watson Street into a full diamond interchange. The upgrade includes a new outbound exit ramp and inbound entry ramp to the Hume Freeway, improving access for local residents, freight and visitors.
Free community shuttle bus
To help people move safely through the area during the closure, a free community shuttle bus will operate between Wallan train station, Wallara Waters and Wallan town centre.
The service will
- Run seven days a week
- Operate 16 hours a day from 6am to 10pm
- Run in a continuous loop
- Have wheelchair access and bicycle and scooter storage
Pedestrians needing to cross the Watson Street bridge outside shuttle operating hours should call 1800 105 105 at any time.
Local bus services will continue to run as normal with no changes to existing routes or timetables.
School shuttle bus
A separate free school shuttle bus will operate for students who usually walk across the Watson Street bridge to get to and from school.
Key information
- Runs each school morning and afternoon
- Available only to students who normally walk across the bridge
- Operates only while the footpath is closed
