Weapons Charges, Cairns North

A 44-year-old Cairns North man has been charged with three offences following an incident outside a McLeod Street unit around 4.40pm on 6 June.

Officers were at the McLeod Street unit block in relation to another matter when they were drawn to an argument between two men in the driveway.

Police allegedly heard a gunshot and saw the 44-year-old man pointing part of a homemade firearm at another man.

No one was injured.

As officers approached, the Cairns North man retreated to his unit. Officers located the man at the doorway of his unit, he was arrested and taken into custody.

Following an emergent search of the 44-year-old man's home, officers allegedly uncovered two improvised homemade firearms.

It will be alleged the 44-year-old man had threatened to shoot the 40-year-old man who was involved in the argument.

Detectives charged the man dangerous conduct with acts intended to maim/disfigure/disable, unlawful use of a category D/H/R weapon and authority required to possess explosives.

He was refused police bail and is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court today, 8 June.
