Weapons, Explosives And Drugs Uncovered At Calliope

Police have charged a man with weapons and drug offences following a search warrant at a Calliope property on 4 February.

Police allegedly uncovered what is believed to be explosive material, including weapons and suspicious devices shortly before 1pm in relation to drug offences.

As a precaution, the QPS Explosive Ordinance Response Team (EORT) attended the location on Herbertson Road, with an exclusion zone established.

The scene was rendered safe, following a controlled detonation and the material will now be scientifically tested.

A crime scene was established and closed later that evening.

A 37-year-old Calliope man was arrested in Bell Street and has been charged with three counts of possessing dangerous drugs (cocaine, testosterone and MDMA), two counts of unlawful possession of weapons (shortened rifle, pen gun, crossbows, butterfly knives), and one count each of common assault, going armed so as to cause fear, authority required to possess explosives (ammunition and firecrackers), possessing restricted items (nunchaku), and unlawful dealing with explosive or noxious substances (improvised explosive device).

He is due to appear before Gladstone Magistrates Court today, 5 February.
