Website Investigation

On Sunday 19 July 2020 detectives from the WA Police Force Technology Crime Services received a complaint through the cybercrime reporting system relating to the publication of private information on an internet website.

On Monday 20 July 2020 detectives executed a search warrant at a private residence and spoke with a 15-year-old male regarding the matter.

The investigation established the information was being sourced by intercepting private pager messaging services in a random manner and that the website publication was not intended to compromise the privacy of any person.

The website is no longer active and the interception of pager messages has ceased.

The investigation established:

1. No government websites or databases had been accessed or compromised;

2. There was no attempt to access or compromise any government websites or databases; and

3. There was no specific targeting of COVID-19 related pager messages.

The investigation is ongoing and detectives from Technology Crime Services are working with the Office of Digital Government (Department of the Premier and Cabinet) in relation to information security.
