This Wednesday’s Storytime session will be one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind – as it comes to Camden live from space!
In celebration of Library and Information Week, which runs from Monday 17 to Friday 21 May, the yearly National Simultaneous Storytime event is scheduled for Wednesday 19 May. This event sees the same book read at the same time across the country and, with this year’s book being Give Me Some Space! by Philip Bunting, astronaut Dr Shannon Walker will be reading it from the International Space Station. It will be broadcast at both Narellan and Oran Park Libraries as part of the existing Storytime sessions scheduled at 10am and 11am.
Mayor of Camden, Cr Theresa Fedeli, said Library and Information Week was all about recognising our Library staff and what libraries mean to the community.
“Gone are the days where libraries are just buildings we go to and borrow a few books from,” Cr Fedeli said.
“Camden’s Libraries are learning and knowledge hubs, filled with state-of-the-art technology, friendly and knowledgeable staff, exciting spaces and resources and fun-filled programs and groups to be part of.
“I’m so proud of our library services and the people that make it all possible, and I know our community loves the service we provide.”
There are more celebrations planned throughout the week, all on Camden Libraries’ Facebook page. We’ll shine a light on a few friendly faces that residents have seen when visiting Camden, Narellan or Oran Park Library, including our Local Studies Librarian, Library Technician, Library Assistant, Library Team Leader and Library Trainee. We’ll also highlight different eResources available to members and how they can be used.
