AUSTRALIA DAY

Our whole community is invited to mark Australia Day on Monday 26 January 2026 at our free family event at the Station Domain, Maryborough.

A free breakfast and children's activities will commence at 8.30am followed by official proceedings at 9.15am.

Our Australia Day Awards – including Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and Community Award of the Year – will also be announced.

The event includes a Citizenship Ceremony where new residents become Australian Citizens.

Medallions will be presented to all babies born during 2025 and free books will be presented to children starting kindergarten in 2026.

Other Australia Day events scheduled across Central Goldfields Shire:

  • 8am – Talbot RSL Park, Heales Street: BYO chair, cup, plate, knife and fork.
  • 10am – Dunolly Gordon Gardens: free breakfast, music, flag raising and guest speakers
  • 10.30am – Carisbrook Market Reserve: free BBQ provided by Carisbrook Lions Club, gifts, live music, Shire volunteer tribute, presentation to winners of Tilly Aston Award 2026.
  • 11am – Bealiba Town Hall: anthem and flag raising, local children's musical performance, speeches, free BBQ lunch.
  • 11am – Daisy Hill Community Centre: flag raising and free BBQ.

PUBLIC HOLIDAY SERVICES

Please note our Customer Service Centre, VicRoads, Maryborough Regional Library, Goldfields Family Centre and our Depot/Pound are closed Monday 26 January for the Australia Day Public Holiday.

Waste services are unaffected. Also note that our Transfer Stations in Bealiba, Dunolly and Talbot now open earlier, from 8am to 12pm on weekends and will close once the temperature reaches 35 degrees. Fire danger ratings can impact Transfer Station operations:

The Central Goldfields Visitor Information Centre will remain open from 9am to 5pm, and Central Goldfields Art Gallery will open from 10am to 4pm.

NEW FOUNTAIN

As part of our Cool Spaces project in partnership with VicHealth - Leading Healthy Communities, Maryborough Regional Library in Nolan Street now has a new drinking fountain.

The water station for people and pets was supplied by Central Highlands Water and installed by Keagan Ross Plumbing and Contracting, with finishing touches from our Facilities and Maintenance team.

Other Cool Spaces for refuge from upcoming heatwave conditions are at Mill House Neighbourhood House and Paramount Cinema.

FAMILY GARDEN WALK

Join Aunty Marilyne Nicholls from 10am to 12pm on Monday 26 January for a guided walk through garingilang gatjin wii, the Central Goldfields Art Gallery's indigenous interpretive garden, while hearing cultural stories and learning about plants natural to our area.
